Vacuum Will Not Turn On

• No power supply: Check the wall outlet, plug, power cord, circuit breaker, and power switch.
• Cordless battery discharged: Charge the battery fully using the approved Dirt Devil charging dock or adapter before restarting.
• Battery not seated correctly: Remove and reinstall the battery until it locks securely into place.
• Thermal protection activated: Turn off the vacuum, unplug it, clear blockages, clean filters, and allow the motor to cool before use.
• Handle not assembled correctly: Confirm that the handle, wand, dirt cup, and motor housing are securely locked into their operating positions.

Loss of Suction

• Dirt cup full: Empty the dirt cup before debris reaches the maximum fill line.
• Filters dirty: Clean or replace foam, pre-motor, post-motor, washable, or HEPA filters according to the model manual.
• Hose blocked: Remove the hose and inspect its full length for hair, paper, toys, or packed debris.
• Brush roll area clogged: Remove hair, thread, carpet fibers, and debris wrapped around the brush roll and end caps.
• Dirt cup not installed properly: Reinstall the dirt cup and filters securely so the vacuum can maintain an airtight seal.

Brush Roll Will Not Spin

• Brush roll switch off: Confirm the brush roll or carpet mode control is enabled before cleaning carpet or rugs.
• Hair wrapped around brush: Remove the brush roll and carefully cut away hair, string, thread, and fibers.
• Belt worn or broken: Inspect the drive belt on applicable models and replace it if stretched, cracked, loose, or broken.
• Brush roll jammed: Clear debris from the brush chamber, end caps, belt path, and nozzle before restarting.
• Floor head blocked: Check the intake opening and nozzle for compacted dirt or objects restricting airflow.

Vacuum Leaves Dirt Behind

• Height setting incorrect: Adjust the cleaning head height or floor setting to match carpet, rugs, or hard flooring.
• Brush roll worn: Replace the brush roll if bristles are flattened, uneven, or no longer make proper contact with the floor.
• Air path restricted: Clear blockages from the hose, wand, nozzle, and dirt cup inlet.
• Dirty filters: Wash or replace filters as required by the manual to restore airflow.

Noise, Odor & Maintenance Tips

• High-pitched motor noise: This often indicates a blockage, full dirt cup, clogged filter, or air leak in the suction path.
• Rattling noise: Check the hose, nozzle, brush chamber, and dirt cup for hard objects such as coins, stones, or small toys.
• Burning smell: Turn off the vacuum immediately. Remove brush roll hair buildup and inspect belts, filters, and airflow passages.
• Musty odor: Empty the dirt cup, wash washable filters, and dry all washable components completely before reassembly.
• Regular cleaning: Empty the dirt cup, clean filters, remove hair from the brush roll, and inspect hoses after regular use.
